County Assistance

The Hutchinson County Welfare Office is responsible for administering the County's program for the necessary support and relief of the indigent. County assistance shall be available only to residents of Hutchinson County and must be a last resort after personal resources, governmental programs, insurance benefits, family assistance and housing resources have been exhausted. The application of assistance is based on SDCL 28-13 and South Dakota County welfare/medical manual.

Financial assistance is not a program of general assistance on a continuing basis, each request is considered a one-time request within a 12 month period.

When the County grants assistance, it is not free. The County enters into an agreement for the repayment under the terms and conditions the County deems appropriate. Any agreement may be evidenced by a contract (SDCL 28-13-20). In accordance with SDCL 28-14, the County shall be entitled to enter into agreements for the satisfaction or compromise of such lien provisions stated.

The Hutchinson County Welfare Office shall not discriminate among applicants for or recipients of assistance on the basis of individual's race, religion, sex, ancestry, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, age or any other characteristic afforded protection by Federal or State Laws.

A LIEN WILL BE FILED UNDER YOUR NAME UNTIL PAID IN FULL
